Sea Turtles of South Padre

In 2017, on the island of Kauai near the Nā Pali Coastline, I snorkeled for the first time in my life. I had the amazing opportunity to swim less than a foot away from five sea turtles in the open ocean, and ever since, I’ve been in love with their docile nature and majestic beauty—some may even say obsessed.

So, during our girls’ trip to Padre Island, we stumbled upon a sea turtle rehabilitation center, where we met Gerry, Cowgirl, Allison, and many more. Each had a unique story, and this incredible nonprofit stepped in to provide the care they needed before releasing those able to survive on their own back into the wild.

We didn’t know what to expect when we stepped inside Sea Turtle Inc., but by the end of our visit, all six of us left with more knowledge and a deeper understanding of this beautiful creature—and an urge to protect them.
