The Bullet and the Breath

I believe healing from psychological trauma is ongoing and for those that struggle with mental health disorders, it can be a never-ending, frightening rollercoaster.

We all face our own internal battles. Some can dodge life’s bullets with ease while others hear the pull of a trigger from miles away—as the anxiety becomes heavier with every breath.

I am no different. And when the bullet struck me, I thought it would ricochet off my armor. Instead, it pierced my scarred heart, and I became tethered to the cataclysmic habits of an old me.

I imagine I’m not alone. If you’ve ever found yourself—or currently find yourself—riding that rollercoaster after you thought you’d exited the park. Take a moment now and breathe.

4 in and 4 out

Remember, only you can overcome this and you’ve done it before. Your peace is more important than the actions or taunts of others. I encourage you to speak your truth to people that support you—whether that is family, friends, or a professional. Sometimes in order to stop the ride, you need help finding the brakes.
