If You Could Not See

Freckles grace the bridge of my nose, extending to my cheeks.

Bright blue eyes reflect ocean hues—wide and deep.

Long in length, with a strong yet delicate shape.

I’ve heard it all—physical compliments enhancing my ego and boosting my confidence.

I do the same—compliment her hair and her smile, the way her shirt brings out her eyes. I compliment her physique and the shoes on her feet.

But what of her strength?

What of her character?

If we took away our sight, would our words shift and the world stand still?

Would you compliment my resilience and ask how I overcame,

instead of praising my ability to walk a runway and giving my pretty face a name?

Would you admire my accomplishments instead of my frame?

Would you take the time to learn about my mind

and everything that makes me shine?

I’m in love with who I am—inside and out.

But tell me this…

If you could not see, what would beauty be?
